This procedure, performed under general anesthesia, creates an opening through the skull for brain tumor removal. The surgery usually requires between two to five hours to complete, depending on the type and size of the tumor. The tumors are usually removed using frameless stereotactic guidance. This is a special navigation system that allows the surgeon to localize the tumor in relation to the scalp and skull and to approach a deep seated tumor in the safest manner.
